Curriculum vitae

Jakub Smolar (born 1984) studied Nanotechnology at the University of Basel before switching to University of Applied Sciences in Muttenz (Switzerland), where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Bioanalytics in 2010. Between 2010 and 2012 Jakub worked as research fellow and research technician at the Departments of Urology and Cardiology of the University Hospital Zurich respectively. Due to his excellent job performance and resultant recommendations Jakub has obtained two scholarships that allowed him to begin his master studies in early 2012. In spring 2014 Jakub received his Masters’ degree in Immunology and Medicinal Microbiology at the University of Bern with insigni cum laude. He is now pursuing a doctoral degree in Integrative Molecular Medicine at the University Hospital Zurich in the group of Dr. Daniel Eberli. In his PhD thesis Jakub is developing an artificial bladder wall using hydrogel biomaterials and adipose-derived stem cells with the focus on the formation of functional detrusor muscle, fast vascularization and proper innervation of the bioengineered tissue. In his spare time Jakub enjoys reading science fiction books, studying quantum field mechanics, playing pen and paper role playing games and spending time with his family.
