Michael received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Molecular Life Science from the University of Luebeck (UzL), Germany in 2015 and 2018, respectively. In his studies, he was awarded with a scholarship by the ‘Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes’ and two University prizes. During his Master’s, he spent a five-month internship in Prof. Jennifer Doudna’s lab, UC Berkeley, investigating the function of CRISPR-Cas systems. Furthermore, Michael completed a six-month R&D internship at the Bayer AG, Berlin, where he implemented a biophysical assay in the Lead Discovery division. In his master thesis research, he studied the siRNA-hTRBP complex in Prof. Tobias Restle’s lab, UzL. Having finished his degree, he successfully applied for a PhD position in Prof. Martin Jinek’s lab where he started in September 2018. Michael has continued to investigate CRISPR-Cas as well as newly discovered antiviral defense systems structurally and functionally. Since December 2018, he has joint the LSZYSN network following up on his commitment in the btS, the German Life Science initiative. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, cycling and hiking.
