Melanie received her Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. During her Master’s studies, she became interested in in-vitro biochemistry and structural biology and participated in the Vienna Biocenter Summer School at the Department of Structural and Computational Biology at the Max Perutz Labs. During her Master’s thesis research, she studied the role of regulatory factors on membrane fusion at the neuronal synapse in the laboratory of Prof. Thomas Söllner at the Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center. In July 2020, she joined the group of Prof. Raimund Dutzler at the University of Zurich for her PhD research project, in which she investigates the structural basis and cellular function of transbilayer lipid transport. In her leisure time, Melanie enjoys dancing and swimming as well as exploring snowy mountains during the winter months.
