Nicolas Perez, PhD

  • Former active member

Nicolas comes from Chile. He studied physics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and did his master students in the biomedical engineering group of the same university, focusing on cell mechanics. Though he loves physics, he wanted to explore more translational science and designing his own experiments, so he started a PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University in the US. There he worked developing microfluidic devices and three dimensional cell culture environments to understand how physical properties change in health and disease. While developing this platform he also had the opportunity to make the infrastructure to analyze the images from the microfluidic device. After completing his PhD in 2019, he joined the Chair of Medical Informatics at the University of Zürich to keep analyzing images, now using deep learning technologies in the context of medical applications. In his free time, Nicolas enjoys playing ukelele, hiking and cooking. He joined the LSZYSN recently to meet other proactive scientists and learn about the industry scene in Switzerland and is now part of the marketing team.
